As a tutor, the highest priority to students to teach them to understand the motivations and purpose of study. Though understanding course content is important in its own right, I believe learning to learn, critical thinking, and structuring arguments are the skills that stick with the student past high school and into university and the…

Education is very important in today's societies, many parents hire tutors to help their children catch up or keep up in school subjects where they are having difficulties and have fallen behind their peers. Tutors can help a student in one or many subjects depending upon the child’s needs and the tutor’s expertise. "My strength is my…

A tutor can notice the student's strength and nourish it through a structured set of activities that the student can do in class as well as independently. A tutor can also notice the areas of student's weaknesses and supply the student with a learning program that can tackle these weaknesses gradually and methodically. Additionally, a tutor is a…

A tutor is more than a teacher. A teachers job is to give a student a base level of understanding whereas a tutor can build on that and go further. This allows students to revisit sections that the teacher brushed over or to build on sections they seemingly understand to ensure they can answer a greater range of question types. Along with the…

I think the best thing a tutor can do is make learning feel achievable. A big part of that is adapting to how each student learns, breaking things down in a way that makes sense to them, and giving them the confidence to tackle challenges on their own. Tutoring isn't just about getting through the syllabus, it's about showing students how to think…

I believe a tutor's role is to help students truly understand what they're learning, build their confidence, and develop skills they can use beyond the classroom. I'm patient and adaptable, and I take the time to explain concepts in different ways until they really make sense to the student. I try to create an encouraging space where they feel…

A tutor should give the most custom type of teaching to each student as general lectures are also given in school and their is no point in repeating the same. Inside PyrmontTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Poppy focused on dividing numbers using long division and began working with dividing decimals.

In Year 9, Tia tackled ratios and rates, practising real-world problem sets and reinforcing key methods for unit conversions.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Daniel worked through differentiation using the product rule and explored more challenging trigonometric function questions to deepen understanding ahead of assessments.

Recent Challenges

In Year 12, a student who was fully capable with application questions lost marks under exam pressure—timed conditions disrupted her usual accuracy and confidence ("under timed conditions, the pressure leads to a loss in marks").

For Year 10 algebra, skipping steps when forming equations hid small sign errors, which took extra time to find.

Meanwhile, in Year 4 maths, forgotten multiplication facts slowed down long division; revision focused only on recent topics meant earlier concepts slipped from memory.

In English (Year 9), arguments lacked focus when writing essays, leaving responses less convincing than intended.

Recent Achievements

A Pyrmont tutor noticed a Year 11 student who previously struggled with worded ratio problems now tackling them independently, even adapting quickly when questions were rephrased—a big shift from needing step-by-step prompts.

In a recent session, a Year 8 student who had been hesitant to ask questions started speaking up whenever unsure and volunteered to solve practice sums on the whiteboard without prompting.

Meanwhile, a primary schooler worked through all her mensuration formula problems within the set time for the first time after having trouble finishing before; she finished strong by checking her answers herself and correcting two small errors without help.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Ultimo Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Sydney Secondary College Blackwattle Bay Campus.
