The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to personalise the learning to suit the student's strengths, to work on their weaknesses but highlight strong points to instil confidence. Although Lincoln is often confident in the answer he gets, he struggles to provide an explanation for his working and often responds with “I just worked it out”. He prefers not to fully understand the whys of problem-solving as it is easier to simply follow patterns. I will continue to work on this when we resume our lessons next year.

Adrielle often says she understands a concept that she is still struggling with. This is clear by how she was struggling to recall how to complete questions that we had covered in the last few lessons. Adrielle needs to stay on task and ensure she is preparing appropriately for exams and assignments.

Adrielle still struggles a bit with her problem-solving skills. She has identified the types of exam-style questions she needs help with and we will focus on those to practise problem-solving.
