What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
I really enjoy helping my students learn, grow and challenge themselves as they explore new material, adapt to it and find satisfaction from their accomplishments or success. I like to see that my students have learnt something, taken something out of my lessons or that I've simply been able to develop a positive relationship with my students so they feel more confident and safe in the educational space.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
I am friendly, compassionate and approachable which allows students to feel less reluctant to ask questions when needed, suggest improvements and have a positive connection with me as their tutor. I aim to create a warm, safe and positive learning environment. Another one of my strengths as a tutor is that I am hard-working and detail-oriented which means that I will always try my best to help my students achieve their potential, attempting different learning techniques and giving constructive feedback until I can recognise clear improvement.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to provide support for their learning, supplement their main studies in schooling and advance students' academic achievement. I think tutoring provides an advantage for students to consolidate understanding from school, learn new topics early such that they are less confused in future learning and feel more confident with their work as they increase academic practice. A tutor helps guide a student to success through encouragement, remedies any misunderstandings and answers questions the student may be afraid to ask in the classroom.

We managed to complete the questions that weren't answered and figured out how to use a real-life picture to get a parabolic equation on Desmos. As I checked through Hazell's answers, she was able to touch up her assignment more. By the end of the session, Hazell had a clear direction for finishing the rest of the assignment.
Hazell has been a hardworking student who was a pleasure to tutor. She concentrated well in this lesson, and though she may need more practice in topics to improve her retention, she works well.

Larena did attempt to complete the homework I set for her last term and what she did complete was correct. She set out her working out neatly and clearly and used an appropriate method to calculate the adding and subtracting of fractions. From the fractions quiz, Larena remembered how to simplify fractions and could complete the addition of fractions with some guidance. Larena got 80% of the times tables correct which is a good improvement. After revising fractions with Larena, she grasped the processes a lot quicker and could verbally answer the questions I asked her related to those topics.
As I expressed to Larena, she will need to focus on her times tables with larger numbers as she evidently struggles with those. Being slow in her times tables will affect her fraction calculations as they involve a lot of multiplication and division of numbers. Also, Larena will have to continue revising what we have learnt on fractions as she tends to forget without much practice. I hope Larena completes her homework this week to help her with this. Other than that, Larena has made improvement on both knowing her times tables and working with fractions. I will try to finish off this unit on fractions next lesson as we have spent a lot of time on it, and Larena is moving on to other topics (e.g. algebra) in school which she has told me that she will need help with.

It's good that we were able to jump right into preparing Hazell for her next assessment as we hadn't had a lesson in a while. After demonstrating how to use Desmos, which Hazell was initially unsure about, Hazell told me that Desmos was easy to use and she got the hang of it quickly! I'm really glad that this graphing calculator is not only critical to her assessment but will also be useful for the remainder of her mathematical studies in high school. After discussing how Hazell could tackle this assignment, talking briefly through each section, then going through Part 1 in more detail, Hazell expressed confidence in completing her assignment which is great. She also understood some key concepts of non-linear relationships after observing trends in the transformations of graphs on Desmos. I am looking forward to seeing her progress in the next lesson.
We didn't get to go through our usual quiz this lesson, as her assessment was urgent and we wanted to maximise the time spent on that. However, Hazell was happy with completing the quiz for homework so she doesn't fall behind and forget what we have learnt in our tutoring lessons, which is very good. Hazell is hardworking and this was a good first lesson back for Term 3.

Larena is great at simplifying fractions now and remembers the process for it too which is great. Sometimes, she still takes some time to think about it as she hasn't finalised learning her times tables yet, but hopefully, this will improve over time. Larena seems to know her times tables of smaller numbers well now, as she quickly and accurately answered the questions involving the multiplication of smaller numbers in the quiz I gave her. By the end of the lesson, Larena was reminded of how to do the addition and subtraction of fractions, improving her speed and accuracy on it, although we had to modify her technique as although she's good at the cross-multiplication method, she tends to forget the process. So, I helped her use another method that was better to remember as it was easier to conceptually understand.
Larena will need lots of practice concerning the conversion and addition/subtraction of fractions as she tended to forget the processes (as I have gauged from our quizzes). I have given her some homework to complete for these reasons, but Larena may need to do extra practice on her own to really improve her proficiency. Larena still needs to learn the rest of her times tables, particularly the multiplication of larger numbers as she is slow at this. Other than this, Larena is making some good progress through fractions and we should be able to move on to the next topic of algebra in a few lessons.
