What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁

I enjoy helping students to understand mathematical concepts, and the satisfaction it gives me when they figure something out for themselves, as solving problems is what maths is about! I love linking concepts to the wider world, and encouraging students who may not see the beauty of maths, to find a personal connection and appreciate the subject.

My Strengths as Tutor 💪

I am very passionate about maths - having taken extension 2 in the HSC, and achieving 92% in extension 1, I have worked through plenty of doubt and shortcomings in the subject, however, I understand the value of hard work and persistence to excel. Many people simply write off maths, thinking it's "not for them", or "too hard", but having a strong grasp of basic concepts and appreciating the meaning behind the work really boosts one's enjoyment. I aim to bring my passion for maths to my tutee, and help them to find their own enjoyment for this discipline.

Most important things I can do for a student 🏅

Allowing my tutees to make mistakes and learn from them, results in better mathematical thinkers. I think that maths is best learned through a trial and error of methods, to find the best one. While this is an individual pursuit, guidance to understanding concepts and learning why or why not certain methods work, is key. Instead of saying "this method doesn't work", I would ask "why did you try this method?", to learn how they approach maths, and give them advice. Overall, acting as a mentor rather than someone who does all the work for the tutee is the most important thing a tutor can do.
