What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
What I enjoy most about tutoring is the opportunity to break down complex ideas and guide students through their "lightbulb moments." I initially started tutoring to earn some money, but I soon realised how fulfilling it is to help others excel in subjects where I have a strong and deep understanding. Having faced similar academic challenges, I know the struggle of mastering difficult concepts, and I love being able to save my students that frustration. It's incredibly rewarding to see their comprehension evolve, and knowing that I played a part in their success is what keeps me motivated.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
My biggest strength lies in my solid understanding of the science of learning. While I believe it's important to trust your gut about what a student needs, simply telling them to study without how to actually do it won't get us far. I've read several books, dozens of research papers, and watched hundreds of hours of videos on effective learning. Using these resources, I developed my own study framework that kept my grades above 75% in university. These principles inform my tutoring approach, allowing me to assist students in a way that’s both scientifically grounded and tailored to their unique needs.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to foster genuine confidence and create a supportive environment. It's crucial to reassure students that needing help doesn't reflect their intelligence but is a step toward improvement. When students make mistakes, I avoid showing frustration and reflect on whether I taught it wrong or if there's a missing piece in their understanding. Effective communication, including reading body language, is essential; when students feel relaxed and motivated by their progress, they are more likely to thrive.

Learning Faster with Science
Marquez’s background in mechanical engineering and obsession with efficiency have shaped his tutoring approach. In 2023, he maintained High Distinction (80%+) while studying less than 4 hours a day and received a letter of commendation from the Dean of Engineering. This success didn’t come from natural talent; Marquez learned how to learn.
Through extensive reading of books, numerous research papers, and videos, he developed an efficient studying framework. In his tutoring, he applies the same foundational study principles to help students create personalised study systems tailored to their individual needs. His goal is to ensure that studying never consumes the student’s entire life.
