Is to provide support, as I student I know it gets hard to understand what teachers are trying to say. A tutor is meant to simplify what is being taught in class and helping out the student to be prepared for their future adventures in an academic level. I am a talkative and hardworking person. I like getting things write and I feel like by doing…

Being able to give them the independence of trying a question and then spending a reasonable amount of time trying to solve it rather than only explaining for the full tutoring session. My strength would be pinpointing what the student doesn't understand and using analogies or using patterns from concepts they already understand to portray the…

Instead of teaching in a standard linear fashion, I prefer to let the pupil choose what they would like to practice and I will explain the concept while showing how the idea can be applied and adjusted. I also believe worded problems are a strong point that should be focused on as they test the knowledge of the student and how the student can…

I truly believe this will be actively listening and giving plenty of feedback. A good tutor will always make sure that the student really understands the concept and knows how to effectively teach the student in a way that works for them. Different students have different ways of learning and it’s the tutors responsibility to make sure that they…

It is important for tutors to understand that not every student is the same and they learn at different paces. Likewise, a tutor should always work to teach lifelong problem-solving and learning skills while giving students the tools and encouragement to use these skills to excel in their learning. This is synonymous with giving students strategies to be independent learners and more effective learners. Alongside this, a tutor can motivate a student through their…

The most important thing a tutor can do is to personalise your teaching. Additionally, the best thing a tutor can do is to be patient. Every student is…

The most important thing I always strive to give my students is confidence and the ambition to go further on their own because learning is 90% being taught and 10% seeking answers. Inside GlenfieldTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Daniel focused on circle area and perimeter, followed by practising volume of prisms using visual examples.

For Year 10, Priya worked through simultaneous equations and quadratic equations, applying these to exam-style questions.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Tom tackled logarithms alongside algebraic manipulation, with a focus on breaking down complex problems into manageable steps.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student struggled to create finance equations for loans, as noted: "needs to complete maths assignment and work more on financial maths questions," but had not completed key homework, making it hard to build fluency.

In Year 8 algebra, skipping written steps caused sign errors; a tutor observed "he must make his working out clear, and do all the steps before coming to his answer."

Meanwhile, a Year 3 student often left addition and subtraction tasks unfinished—sometimes forgetting materials—which slowed progress in class.

Confidence dropped when questions became difficult, leading one student to guess rather than show their thinking.

Recent Achievements

A Glenfield tutor noticed a big shift in one Year 10 student who used to make frequent mistakes on algebra problems; after practising clearer working out, he now finishes questions with fewer errors and actively asks for help when stuck instead of guessing.

In chemistry, a senior high school student surprised herself by independently tackling tough amide and amine exam questions she'd struggled with last term.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner who previously hesitated to speak up started verbalising confusion during area lessons—she even tackled circle area questions enthusiastically and asked for extra practice without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Glenquarie Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Hurlstone Agricultural High School.
