in my opinon more than studying, a tutors main goal in teaching should making the student fall in love with studying, and build confidence in students, also providing good constructive criticism, have a personalized approach, and creating a positive learning approach for the students. i am very patient with my students and am very determined to…

Learn with the student. I am striving to be a better person each day, with it, comes humility. I believe that if you come to the student appearing human and able to make mistakes (as I am not a robot), the student will understand that I am not intimidating nor a machine, but rather human just like they are. Building a strong and humane connection…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to listen to what they need and make sure to push them only to their highest point of productivity. Every student has different goals and learns in a different way so it is the responsibility of the tutor to cater to those needs. I am able to foster and maintain strong connections with…

In terms of each lesson, I believe it is more important for the tutor to teach the content and allow their student to understand thoroughly what is being done rather than completing a certain amount of work together within a given period of time. Ultimately, understanding theory and working out will allow for greater success rather than memorising…

I think it is extremely important for a student to feel comfortable in the presence of their tutor, allowing them to express where they are struggling, resulting in an appropriate environment for both teaching and learning. When this relationship is formed, a tutor is able to fully understand the areas of difficulty for the student and are…

The ability to pose different methods to learn a concept/idea is the most important thing a tutor can do, as not all students learn in the same way, My patience and preparation are both skills that enhance my abilities as a tutor in working with students. As well as, for older years, my knowledge of the NESA syllabus and marking criteria in order…

Most importantly to a student a tutor is there to provide a student with the most positive, educational experience that suits the student's needs. A tutor must be adaptable to different learning styles and needs, adjusting to what is most beneficial to the student. As a recent high school graduate, I can lend an empathetic ear to the student and…

I believe that boosts a student's confidence in the school environment as they are receiving additional help from outside. This allows them to enjoy their time at school and develop positive learning habits. All of these effects will result in better grades for a student, once again fostering more confidence, and cycling back to better grades. I…

A tutor can help students to stay updated with the syllabus being taught at his/her class at school. A tutor makes sure that the student doesn’t miss out any topic taught at school and moreover a tutor tries to clear the student concepts of various topics/subjects. I can speak English and also other languages like Urdu , Hindi, Pashto. I…

Inside Dolls PointTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 10 student focused on solving trigonometric equations with one unknown using sine, cosine, and tangent, then applied these skills to worded trigonometry problems.

In Year 11 Chemistry, Fatima practised balancing chemical and net ionic equations alongside calculating molar mass and limiting reagents.

For a Year 12 student, recent lessons concentrated on acids and bases with particular attention to titration methods and interpreting results from practical experiments.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student, as a tutor noted, "does not study anything of what we cover during the week," so sessions often repeat previous material instead of progressing.

In Year 11 Maths, forgetting key formulas like the trapezoidal rule meant extra time spent revisiting old content before tackling new exam questions.

A Year 5 learner misplaced homework by writing it on scraps rather than in the assigned booklet, leading to unfinished spelling tasks.

Meanwhile, one Year 7 student hesitated to write out steps in algebra due to fear of making mistakes—this slowed their ability to check and correct errors when practicing equations.

Recent Achievements

One Dolls Point tutor recently saw a high school student, who previously relied heavily on guidance, begin to solve problems independently and clearly explain each step back—she even kept her notes more organised than before and was fully aware of her upcoming assessments.

Another secondary student, after struggling with titration calculations in chemistry, managed to work through practice questions until she could complete them accurately on her own.

Meanwhile, a Year 3 student who had difficulty remembering spelling patterns earlier in the term spelled every word on his list with 100% accuracy and finished all ten words without mistakes.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Sans Souci Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like The Scots College, Brighton Preparatory School.
