What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
Having moved from Sydney to Perth during primary school, I was exposed to a different state curriculum. I was half a year behind in content, and despite teachers trying their best, I was not getting sufficient help in the classroom. Luckily I was able to catch up once I started meeting with a tutor, which helped my academic grades and confidence. The chance to provide this opportunity to someone else needing help is overall an extremely rewarding experience.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
1. My ability to teach in multiple methods
(e.g. using scenarios, active recall methods, posters/diagrams, mind maps on whiteboards, associative phrases to remember information.)
2. Good communication skills with both native English students and EAL students.
3. My patience and friendliness helps build rapport with students, ensuring a comfortable environment for them to try their best, even if they may be wrong.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
1. Be understanding and compassionate, as we may not fully understand their scenario or their struggles.
2. Listening to students in regards to what their weakest areas are and implementing any methods they may want to use to address the issue (e.g. practice questions).
3. Understanding when it's the right time to say "lets move onto another question and come back this at the end". This is key to making sure the student still feels motivated, and that they don't get too overworked and start feeling hopeless.
