What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
There is something so rewarding about the look of pride on someone's face after they accomplished something they struggled with or thought they couldn't do. I believe that knowledge is power which is what motivates me to encourage students to persevere through challenges. Additionally, I am very much a people person and I love spending time with kids which is probably one of the biggest reasons I enjoy tutoring - the connection with the student. And of course, being told I have helped or inspired or motivated someone is the icing on the cake as you see that you are making a difference.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
Aside from being a naturally bubbly, friendly person, whenever I am tutoring I am suddenly overcome with a wave of patience I have never felt before. Also, I never tell a student the answer. I always encourage them to give it their best try whether it is right or wrong because if it is wrong, we'll go back through it together. And despite not having any professional education training, I can easily adapt to the person/situation and think of different ways I could explain things to make concepts easier to grasp and solidify their understanding.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is be a student's number one supporter. School fills you with enough doubt as is, so it is imperative to create a safe learning environment for them to make mistakes in order to grow. This goes hand in hand with being a role model whom they can be inspired & motivated by and look up to. I believe the first step to growth and progress is having confidence in yourself and a strong sense of self-efficacy which is why it is so important for a tutor to show that they believe in their student - they will start to do the same.
