What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
I enjoy tutoring as I can relate with the student and his feelings as I was in the same position one year ago. I enjoy the feeling of confidence I can bring to the student as he realises how to do a problem. I enjoy the process of knowing that I am building up the student's knowledge base. I know the student's feelings of confusion when they can't understand a thing and I sincerely enjoy helping those students as I can see myself in them.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
Since I recently finished year 12, I feel like I can relate with the students the strongest and understand their circumstances in this covid situation. I also have a strong grasp on the new syllabus which has been changed 2 years ago thus, allowing me to provide the right resources to the student. I personally did all of my studying with a core focus on understanding the fundamental concepts of any topic I am studying. I personally think that if students can understand them then all of the topic will be easy and this is my strength as I will make all students build a good foundation.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
Most important things a tutor can do are personalizing the learning, maximise students strength in a variety of topics, sharing their own HSC experiences which cures the anxiety of the student and most of all being patient with the student and explaining it to him as many times as he asks. I personally think patience is the most important as even if the tutor is an extraordinary genius, he won't get his student to learn anything if he is not patient in understanding the student's flaw in reasoning.

When revising trig identities, I observed that Alexander remembered all the formulas he needs for his trig topic and now he has a good grasp on how to solve identities and proofs.
Alexander needs to polish his skills in understanding the foundational mechanics of trigonometry. He was able to pinpoint what the trig equation was asking for but was not able to find the answer as he doesn't have a strong grasp on the theoretical knowledge on the subject. He needs to graphically understand what the question is asking for so he can have a clearer picture of the situation.
When I gave him some practice problems, Alexander was able to remember all the formulas and was able to apply them in the right situations.

During the induced EMF topic, Alexander had a hard time defining terms like the magnetic flux and induced EMF. He was able to apply those formulas but was not able to give me a concrete definition showcasing his understanding of those concepts. In the next lesson, I will focus on the theoretical part of the induced EMF topic, so that Alexander will have a strong foundation for future topics and will be able to understand them with no difficulty.

I gave him some tricky questions for the electromagnetism topic and I saw that Alexander knows the formulas and also when he should use them. He has a good understanding of the introductory content.
When we were solving hard questions, he had a hard time visualising them. Drawing out the question makes it easier but he overthinks it and confuses himself. In future classes, I will give him a lot of questions that needs to draw to understand and make drawing out the question his second nature.
When doing the problems Alexander knows most of the trig identities so he was able to pick up quickly even on the questions he was stuck on.
When doing the problems Alexander knows most of the trig identities so he was able to pick up quickly even on the questions he was stuck on.
Alexander knows the identities but has a hard time knowing when to use them and that can only be solved by doing a lot of problems. So, I gave him a lot of trig questions as homework. In future classes I'm going to adopt this approach by giving a lot of different types of questions because that is the only way he would get better at trig identities.
