What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁

The most enjoyable part is witnessing how the healthy work environment in tutoring allows a student to grow in their abilities, and seeing their ambitions rise as they accomplish the smaller goals of learning they set for themselves. I enjoy seeing how as I progress in my teaching, the student’s view of the subject evolves and questions which they had deemed hard or near impossible are now familiar and no longer a challenge. Seeing this growth and the confidence they gain in a subject becomes the most enjoyable part of tutoring which just about surpasses the joy of seeing them perform well.

My Strengths as Tutor 💪

Completing Mathematics Extension 2 in high school taught me for certain that it's not practice which makes perfect…it’s good practice which makes perfect. I believe a key strength I possess as a tutor is the awareness of how I can truly use my limited time with the student to maximise their learning, and give them the best balance of difficult questions to peak their productivity. I also draw my strengths from my ability to pass on this skill and teach students how to effectively view a question, not just its difficulty, but the ability to visualise a solution that gets them to start working.

Most important things I can do for a student 🏅

“If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. If you teach a man to fish, you feed him for a lifetime.†A tutor must not just allow a student to improve whilst with the tutor, but teach them to learn and improve anytime they study without one. Teaching a student to approach challenges, and to develop the habit of using their mistakes as opportunities to learn enhances their growth not just in a school subject like maths or chemistry but for a lifetime. Allowing for their students to learn how to “learn†is the most important thing a tutor must do.
