What do I enjoy most about tutoring? π
It's surely seeing the students make effort, believe in themselves and grow with my support.
For instance, with one of my previous student who lagged behind in class and hated math. I enjoyed the challenge of understanding her, figuring out the right approach to work together. The most satisfying moment after 4 months together was when she said she was no longer afraid of math, earned good exam marks (and constantly challenged me back.)
My Strengths as Tutor πͺ
Through my experience as private tutor and English/Math volunteer teacher for several years, I've known:
I have strong patience and understanding for students, which allow me to develop good comfort and trust with them. I believe those are the strong foundation for good long-term tutoring. "Trust me, I'm here as your companion."
I strongly value proactive learning, in which students take active effort to move forwards in their learning. They will get to know what they are good at/need to improve, what approach suits them, etc. I therefore try my best to help students gain confidence through positive reinforcement, scaffold through suitable tutor content and motivate self-understanding and self-learning throughout the sessions.
And last, I'm flexible. By that I can adjust my teaching content depending on the situation- my student's spontaneous mood, surprise exam coming, the very details/ links/events that help them remember easily, more and more. My lesson is hardly boring because of this.
Most important things I can do for a student π
1. Know the student well enough - their characters, strengths and weaknesses. Only by this can the tutor "cooperate" with them in few hours in a week and bring true support to their study.
2. Bring honest, constructive feedback for the student to know what's needed to advance.
3. Be there as source of motivation for the student to trust him/herself, keep practicing and becoming better.
