What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
I’ve always been an extremely engaged student who chases knowledge like it’s oxygen. I love seeing people reach that level of understanding where they just “get it nowâ€, and I always find that there’s an extra level of understanding that can only be reached by teaching someone else, so I find that extremely personally rewarding as well.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
I’ve been working as an escape room game master for the better part of a decade, and it’s given me two things:
1. Patience. People need time to practice and process. I can have a perfect understanding of a challenge my student is facing, but if I just solve it for them then I’m not actually teaching anything.
2. Attention to detail. My job as a game master is to watch people struggling with a challenge, and find the optimal point to step in and offer guidance. Additionally, my HSC maths teacher taught me how to notice someone falling behind and catch them up to speed incredibly quickly.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
Personally, when I was a student the most important effect of good teachers and tutors was regaining confidence in myself. They showed me that it was okay to fail, how to bounce back, and how to learn from my mistakes. Having a strong education is a wonderful thing, but having been through the whole K-12-Uni-Workforce pipeline by far the best thing I got out of school was the ability to adapt and grow myself. I don’t know a single career that doesn’t expect professionals to learn new skills and cope with adversity, and I’ll leap at any opportunity to pass that on.
