What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁

I enjoy watching the student progress in their education and seeing them gain confidence in areas they struggled with prior to getting help. I love being able to assist in growing their skills and have them come into the next lesson telling me they passed another test.

My Strengths as Tutor 💪

I have learned that I am a great communicator, I am easily able to understand a student when they explain something to me. As someone who went through school struggling with grades - much like these students, I am able to relate and connect with the student, to find ways to better their learning and always find ways to improve my teaching.

Most important things I can do for a student 🏅

I believe the most important way a tutor can help a student, is to understand and relate. I find that a lot of people look down on students who have bad grades, but it's important to understand the student and instead of focusing on the bad, I celebrate the small steps as that can help the student gain confidence as they are getting things right.

About Lara

My education

I am an 18 year old TAFE student who is studying a Certificate in School Based Education support. In this course I have learnt about child development, health and safety, literacy and oral language skills, numeracy skills, close supervision of students and students with assisting additional needs. I have worked in a classroom environment in the past and mostly enjoyed working with the students to create a safe, happy and educational environment. I will be fully qualified in December and have hopes to work next year continuing on with tutoring and classroom assistance.

My goals

I am passionate about youth safety, I have high hopes that one day I can work in youth risk environments to help them find their way around in the real world. I want to work as a youth/welfare worker that assists youth at risk in finding them safe places to stay, finding an education pathway and leading them into paths to find a career. I will have councillor, therapist and phycologist contacts I can refer them to and help them set up identity forms such as, a bank account, drivers licence and medicare. My journey in education and working with high school kids has led me to this career decision and tutoring is the best decision for me right now due to my high background knowledge in education.

My background

I grew up in Perth with my 2 younger siblings. Growing up, we liked to play fun games with each other like 'how long can I put my hand in this ice bath before it starts hurting' and 'how many times can we tap dads shoulder before he gets annoyed'. As we got older we met our lovely step mum who gave us three new siblings and our step dad who gave us one. All together I have 6 siblings and I enjoy spending time with them all. In my spare time I like to colour in, go for walks and make Pinterest boards of room inspiration that I will never actually get around to doing.
