A tutor must be adaptable and proactive. They must observe a student's progress and deduce what method they learn best and adjust their teaching accordingly. Each student is different and has different capacities of learning and a good teacher must identify them for each student and make the best out of their unique potential. I can teach the…

By helping them get a good grip of the foundation of the subject or topic. This is why I enjoy tutoring as well, as it lets me revise. I believe that with a good foundation the student will be more capable of catching on quickly to more harder topics and won't find it frustrating even if they initially struggle with it. Another important quality…

To teach them in a way that they are equipped with the knowledge at a good pace for them, while also remaining up to date or a head of schedule. This allows them to have things mastered before their classes, allowing them to spend that time in the most effective way they see fit. My strengths as a tutor are the ability to lead a student to an…

Allowing students to become independent thinkers and restorning their self confidence is one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student. This means while you guide them in filling gaps in knowledge and breaking down difficult concepts, the tutor is able to build these fundamental skills in the student. In instilling these skills, I…

A tutors goal is to make sure the student understands the subject completely, as well as prepare them for any tests/exams. This includes teaching all the content as well as setting practice questions and exams for them to apply their knowledge. I do think it's very important a student never feels judged or stressed from the pressure of learning, as that can taint their experience for a long time before they are comfortable again to engage actively. It's crucial tutors are understanding of how a student is feeling and supports them as much as possible in moments of confusion and…

transformation and one-to-one correspondence transformation is about how the tutor transforms "content knowledge into forms that are pedagogically powerful and adaptive to students’ abilities." (Shulman, 1992). One to one correspondence is because tutoring is about catering the lesson to students' individual or groups' needs. The tutor should…

Inside RowvilleTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 student Bridget revised networks and graphs as well as matrices ahead of her SAC, focusing on interpreting network diagrams and matrix operations.

In Year 10, Cailin tackled challenging homework questions involving linear equations and quadratics, working through problem areas from previous assignments for clarity.

For Year 11, Alex reviewed financial mathematics topics like simple and compound interest using real-life scenarios, then practised solving related application problems to reinforce understanding.

Recent Challenges

In order to retain the content, she has to complete the assigned questions. Missing this step meant concepts in matrices and algebra slipped between sessions for the Year 10 student.

In Year 12 Chemistry, difficulty organizing formulas and recalling theory slowed progress on calculation-based tasks; a tutor observed that more work needs to be done to solve for x during problem-solving.

For a Year 7 student, not writing out notes during lessons led to distraction and gaps in understanding application questions.

Forgotten homework or partial revision made consolidating new skills harder each week.

Recent Achievements

One Rowville tutor noticed a big shift in a Year 10 student's approach to indices: after struggling to identify which formula to use, she now spots the right method herself and works through examples without hesitation.

In another session with a Year 12 student, the tutor saw genuine progress as Bridget finished most of her SAC preparation on matrices and networks; this time, she didn't just recall formulas but explained why each step mattered.

Meanwhile, a younger student who previously guessed answers during addition practice has started asking for help whenever unsure—last week, she completed all her grouping number questions independently.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Rowville Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Rowville Primary School.
