I consider the ability to communicate in the student's eye level to be the essential as a tutor. For example, a tutor should be able to support students based on their level of education and motivation. My strength as a tutor is my ability to communicate and explain difficult concepts as simple as possible. Also, I take tutoring as an opportunity…

The most vital thing a tutor can do is to make study fun , yes, a student who just remained worried about studies and exams should no longer be worried if he or she has a tutor . A tutor should be someone on whom a student could rely on about their studies and performance. apart for that , a tutor should understand a student’s weaknesses and…

As a tutor the most we can do for is a student is to encourage them to not just learn what's in the book but also to understand the concepts with a greater depth. The other thing that tutor can do for a student to maximise their educational growth is to try and make them understand the points where they are wrong and not just to do their work for…

I believe the key roles of a tutor are to create a safe and supportive learning environment, understand each student’s strengths and weaknesses, explain concepts in a way that makes sense to them, and help them build study skills and confidence that go beyond the subject at hand. I am patient, adaptable and communicate clearly. I can break down…

I strongly believe in the idea behind the saying, teach a person how to fish, and you feed them for a lifetime. A tutor's role extends beyond just providing answers; it's about equipping students with problem-solving skills that they can apply across different subjects and real-world situations. My engineering degree has taught me how to break…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be compassionate and assess their situation and help them navigate through the problems they are facing. Secondly, I'd say is to impart knowledge to the student as this is his/her base and thus it needs to be strengthened and help them realize their dreams and guide them to it. One of my…

Tutors are expected to bolster student grades however this is not their true purpose, A tutor should help to develop students to not only achieve greater marks but also to have a greater understanding of the field they are being tutored in. This should extend beyond the tutoring time as the student develops the skills required to support…

Besides helping them understand and learn a topic, the tutor should also help the student master the topic through mastery learning. Inside FelixstowTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Em worked through the more challenging parts of a maths folio task, including strategies for formatting equations in Word, and began exploring REDOX reactions in Chemistry.

For Year 9, Isabel focused on expanding and factorising algebraic expressions and simplifying algebraic fractions.

In Year 10, Ana prepared for her exam by covering key theory from the functions and relations topic, an area she found particularly unfamiliar.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student often arrived at sessions without recent test papers or clear notes, making it hard to pinpoint gaps before exams—one tutor observed, "she hadn't brought her maths test home, so next time."

In Year 11, motivation to revise independently was low, with folio drafts left incomplete and little energy for organizing formal write-ups.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 learner's written work in Pythagoras' Theorem was described as needing clearer layout; corrections were required just to follow the logic.

In each case, confusion and disorganization led to frustration or missed opportunities for timely feedback.

Recent Achievements

A Felixstow tutoring session saw a Year 11 student become much more proactive—she now arrives with her own list of questions, and recently worked through every item in just one hour.

In another win, a high schooler who used to hesitate when facing algebraic proofs was able to tackle most steps independently, only checking in for minor guidance.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 student initially found trigonometric functions confusing but became noticeably more engaged after experimenting with different angle values during the lesson; she even asked for extra practice examples before finishing.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Payneham Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Felixstow Primary School.
