A tutor can engage the mind of a child and develop a love for the subject within the child. Education has the power to broaden horizons and inculcate a sense of satisfaction which I believe can be brought in by the help of a tutor. Being able to communicate at a level that the child understands is a must. As a tutor, you must be able to build a…

A tutor can ultimately change the perception a student has of a particular subject. If the tutor can truly explain things in a good manner, a student can change from hating the subject to finding it manageable and may even start enjoying the subject. Amita, Eaglemont

Inside EaglemontTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Mitch focused on converting improper fractions to mixed numbers and representing fractions on a number line, working through practical examples for clarity.

Year 10 student Olivia reviewed scatterplots and Pearson's correlation coefficient in preparation for an upcoming general maths assessment, including hands-on calculator skills practice.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Sarah explored chemical bonding by distinguishing between covalent, ionic, and hydrogen bonds and determining polarity using real compound examples.

Recent Challenges

In Year 4 maths, Elena often tried to solve division and multiplication questions in her head or all at once, avoiding written steps. As a tutor observed, "she submitted homework without showing working out," which made it difficult to track where errors crept in.

For Year 10 English, Mitch missed the short story deadline over the break; this meant lesson time was spent catching up rather than exploring new writing strategies.

During senior chemistry revision, one student forgot to bring prepared flashcards for different bond types, so class time shifted from review to last-minute note-making instead of deeper comparison work.

Recent Achievements

One Eaglemont tutor noticed a real shift with Mitch, a Year 10 student who used to hesitate when asked about literary techniques—last week, he quickly spotted metaphors and alliteration in a poem and even linked them to the mood of the text without prompting.

In chemistry, another high schooler managed to distinguish between polar and nonpolar molecules independently after previously mixing up the concepts, now able to explain each stage in her own words.

Meanwhile, Felix in Year 5 showed new initiative by tackling division problems he'd struggled with before, solving several tough examples on his own during class.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Ivanhoe Library & Cultural Hub—or at your child's school (with permission), like Our Lady of Mercy College.
