I think a tutor is best when assisting the student rather than directing the student. A student should point to their respective goal and the tutor will pull them towards that goal. I believe my strong mathematics background gives me a strong edge when it comes to explaining math concepts and ideas in a vibrant way which is easy to understand. I…

I consider communication and patience to be the most important things that a tutor can offer for a student. I believe that communication between a tutor and student can help a tutor understand a student struggles/ needs in learning better, which can help a student’s progress grow tremendously. Also, effective communication from the tutor to the…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to never give up on them. Such a tutor, whom is demotivating, doesn't care and has a lack of patience will also cause the student to reflect the same behaviour towards the area of difficulty. The student will develop an attitude which lacks motivation, work ethic and form low…

Being able to teach in a way where students are readily motivated and inspired by the way you teach. Just being a support for the student in question. Now, obviously, the first idea to jump to there is academically, and this is super important, of course, but also school is a naturally difficult time for a lot of students for a large variety of reasons, and even if the tutor nor student realize it, being there to help dealing with it is a massive…

Likewise, a tutor should always work to teach lifelong problem-solving and learning skills while giving students the tools and encouragement to use these skills to excel in their learning. I believe a tutor must not only be an academic mentor but must also help students maintain a positive outlook on learning. Although learning can be difficult at times for students, it is important that tutors can empathise with them and provide the most suitable advice to motivate students and help them maintain a resilient mindset. I believe…

The most important thing a tutor can do for students is to nurture their desire to learn and continue learning. This could be done by reinforcing the material whether they have yet to or already have learnt the material. By reinforcing it, students will have familiarity with the content and make it easier to tackle questions. As students feel…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is give them the opportunity for real self-development. From my own experience during the HSC, I had to learn many lessons the hard way, and I realised that success isn’t just about understanding the content, but about building systems that help you learn effectively. A good tutor…

Support and guidance are vital to a students experience through education. While some need small levels of prompting or an extra pair of eyes to overlook work, some students may benefit from additional teachings outside of the traditional classroom to boost their sense of understanding in a more individual-focused lesson. My strengths as a tutor…

I believe is to understand what works for a student. To know if this child is a visual learner or a note taker or an example question person. To truly understand the most efficient way to teach a student is the best gift you can give a student. Help them also learn their study method that works and helps them through their school career. We decided to use EzyMath when our daughter started High School. We were partnered up with a fabulous tutor. She made Maths enjoyable and easier to understand as well as being easy going and friendly. On dealing with EzyMath head office on a monthly basis, they were professional, prompt with dealing with any queries and very accommodating. I would highly recommend their services to anyone looking for a tutor.

Inside AbbotsburyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Jamie worked on applying Pythagoras' Theorem to various triangle problems and used Venn diagrams for calculating probabilities.

In Year 10, Sarah focused on graphing parabolas by identifying intercepts and turning points, then practised shifting parabolas horizontally and vertically.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Jonathon revised the laws of logarithms through challenging practice questions and tackled differentiation problems using first principles.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student hesitated to start solving questions in class, leading to delays: "He takes too long to take the first step, to start."

In senior English (Year 11), another found it difficult to link analysis directly back to the question and struggled with using PETAL effectively for short answers.

For Year 8 maths, one learner relied on brief, one-word responses and rarely voiced his reasoning aloud—confidence issues limited deeper discussion.

Meanwhile, a Year 12 student over-complicated straightforward calculus problems, causing her to get stuck rather than progressing smoothly through differentiation tasks. The moment stretched out as uncertainty replaced momentum.

Recent Achievements

One Abbotsbury tutor noticed a Year 11 student has become much more independent, now walking through her thought process out loud and explaining solutions step-by-step—something she rarely did before.

In another session, a high schooler who used to hesitate when faced with new question types started attempting every problem on his assignment, even if unsure, showing real initiative instead of waiting for guidance.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student who previously guessed at answers is now confidently asking questions whenever he gets stuck and was able to finish all the percentage problems in his pre-test without any help.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Green Valley Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Edensor Park Public School.
