What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
The most enjoyable aspect of tutoring is - for me, personally - the certainty of helping a student achieve what they set their mind to: seeing their expression when understanding a particularly difficult topic, watching them solving a task all on their own for the first time and, of course, listening to their latest achievement of better grades in school.
I absolutely love being part of the process of a student’s realization that they can actually tackle a subject they were convinced not be capable of, teaching them that with a little dedication, anything is possible.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
For one, I have gained a lot of - recent - experience in tutoring over the years in school, being on both the receiving and giving end, teaching and being taught. Consequently, I am capable of resorting to tactics I have developed in the teaching position as well as taking the students perspective, what they understand and need.
Furthermore, I consider myself to be altogether very patient and resilient - If a student does not understand a topic at first, which they rarely do, it is no reason to be exasperated but rather evidence that it is necessary to resort to other learning techniques.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
Over the years, I have developed the opinion that the teaching of transferable skills - contrary to only what is needed at the moment - is most valuable for the student’s future development. It is important to see that just completing the mandatory homework will not suffice, the real challenge is to change the mindset.
As a good tutor, one has to bring the student to believe they are capable of understanding the subject and there is nothing wrong with taking more time with that. I believe a great approach is to build the mentee’s self-confidence and teaching them to how to learn.
