What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁

What I enjoy most about tutoring is the experience I can share with my students. When I tutor, I try to connect with the students and help them fall in love with the subject. Tutoring isn't just about teaching concepts but developing an interest in the student to learn more. I enjoy helping students find that passion and igniting their curiosity.

My Strengths as Tutor 💪

My main strength is that I can understand my students' strengths and weaknesses. This allows me to cater lesson plans according to their skills and give them a more rewarding tutoring experience. This also helps me connect with the students; such a relationship is important for the students to trust me and gain information from me. I try to make lessons as interactive as possible.

Most important things I can do for a student 🏅

A tutor must be able to understand the student's perspective. Students think in unique ways and a good tutor should encourage that level of thinking. A tutor must also be equipped enough to answer any out-of-syllabus questions that students may have. A good tutor should encourage an inquisitive mindset among their students. I strive to do these for my students to the best of my abilities.

About Nayana

My introduction and Background

Hi! I am Nayana, a Master of Applied Economics student at UNSW. I recently graduated with distinction in a Bachelor's of Economics, Mathematics and Statistics (triple major). I enjoy exploring subjects that have a lot of practical and technical applications to it. I entered the tutoring space initially as a peer mentor. I began by taking workshops for students on various academic and professional topics. I then moved on to become the team leader of this peer tutoring group. This equips me with skills necessary to work with students and peers and really help them out. I love mathematics and it is a great joy of mine to be able to spread the love for mathematics and learning to students who may find the subject daunting. Irrespective of whether the student just needs a nudge in the right direction, or needs plenty of extra support; I am here to help and guide them.

My motivation

Growing up, I fell in love with Mathematics because I was fortunate enough to have wonderful teachers who would not only teach the subject but also impart their love for the subject through their teaching style. This developed a positive habit in me of enjoying mathematics. I want to impart that same love for the subject to other students and help them find their passion. I want to help students to not only understand concepts but retain them and enjoy solving mathematics. My mother is also a teacher and I have grown up watching her tutor students. Her style and passion have stuck to me and given me my own sense of identity. All of these factors really drive me to create a positive change in a student's life through the knowledge I can help them gain.
