What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁

My experience in the Smith Family Reading Program has really demonstrated how fulfilling tutoring can become, not only for me, but also the person I'm tutoring. It's great to be able to journey with a student to help them gain a better understanding of a subject, and simply be there to support and encourage them.

My Strengths as Tutor πŸ’ͺ

Personally, I feel as though my primary strengths would include being patient and empathetic. Considering my own experience, having to receive tuition in Mathematics in my earlier years of schooling, I can understand and relate to those feelings that many kids share of possibly never getting better at a subject. With this, it did take me plenty of time to build a confidence in Maths, which instilled in me a great sense of patience and softness within myself. I hope I'd be able to carry on such lessons to students.

Most important things I can do for a student πŸ…

What made my tuition experience incredible was how reassuring and supportive my tutor was of me. They always took that extra step to ask me how my day was, and genuinely inquire about it while I did my work. Alongside this, they would show their appreciation and pride when I'd do something correctly, while carefully calling out my mistakes, and helping me understand where I went wrong and how to fix that. I believe these things are so important for a tutor to do in order to help show the student how they're progressing, and to simply encourage them.
