What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
I enjoy how rewarding the experience is for both the student and the tutor. The student is able to achieve their goals in school and reach their potentials while the tutor is also able to gain further experience and feel joy when their students gain confident and excel.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
My strengths are:
- I can personalise my teaching style to each student, as students learn best when they are able to understand teachings and explanations.
- I can connect and relate to a student's experiences or worries relating to school. As I have recently completed high school in 2021, I can share my own experiences and give advice or tips to the student.
- I have great responsibility as a tutor, and know the weight of impact I have on my students.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
I think tutoring should be personal to each student, and that students should be able to feel a connection to their tutor. This can be achieved by adapting to each student's learning styles with different forms or methods of explanation or examples.
It is also important that a tutor constantly encourages their students to never give up easily. For example when the student faces a hard question and does not even attempt it, a tutor should motivate the student and teach how to approach such problems.
Tutors should also help in building students' confidences.

- The homework was done very well with only maximum 1 error for each topic, but also because we covered it already. - It was our first online lesson through zoom but Sophia followed along well, although the time frame of 1 hour was a bit short and we had to run overtime.
- Sometimes her calculation speed for timestables is a bit slow, for example when I asked what 15 needs to be divided by to get 3, she took some time to answer correctly 5. - But she is definitely improving, and it will definitely be very helpful to her to do online lessons while she is on holiday, so she doesn't lose track of this progress we have built up until now.
She has improved in last week's content topics, she probably just needed a bit more explaining and practising questions together to solidify her learning.

She didn't do her homework from last week, but this is the first time that she hasn't done homework at all. This is alright as it is only the first time, and perhaps the topic was still a bit hard for her.

We finally moved from from year 5 revision content to starting Year 6 content! - She did the homework from last week, the time worksheet very well, only got 1 answer incorrect and that was a silly mistake.
This time, it was new content that Sophia learnt such as ratios or proportions, so she did have a bit of difficulty understanding the new concept. But eventually she got the hang of it. We will see from how she does her homework this week.

- At school when I asked what she has been doing, she said time tables and she has improved her knowledge of time tables. This is evident in her maths problems calculations such as multiplication of larger numbers using the lattice method. - She did the 2d, 3d figures homework well with only some questions incorrect and very few unknown.
- She could improve her habits of working out, as sometimes she only writes the answer without the working. - Hence I am trying to get her to write working out for each problem solved clearly as it can prevent future errors and prepare her for high school style maths.
