What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
I really like being able to pass on my knowledge to students, it feels really nice being able to help them out and I love watching their grades improve. I enjoy simplifying concepts to make them easier for students to understand. But my favorurite part of tutoring is when I am explaining a difficult concept to a student and there is that 'click moment' where I can see the excitement in their eyes as they finally understand the concept.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
One thing that makes me a great tutor is that although I usually end up getting really good grades, I really struggle when I am first introduced to a new concept. This makes me better able to relate to struggling students, since I once had trouble with the same concepts! I know the areas that students find the most challenging as I have been there myself, and I believe that I am really good at writing summary notes and explaining these concepts in a simple way. I am also very good at connecting and developing relationships with students.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
I think it goes without saying that a tutor should help their student/s to understand concepts so that the student can improve on their grades. But I believe that tutoring goes so much further beyond that. A tutor should strive to truly engage the student in their learning. A good tutor will motivate and inspire the student so that they are actually interested in what they are learning. Tutors should be great role models for their students, and they should deliver the content in such a way that the student is enjoying their learning and eager to learn more.

Mahshari was really good at talking aloud, he was able to talk me through his whole thought process and approach to the problems. He was also good at asking me questions when he didn't understand something, he pulled me up when I was going too fast.
One thing that Mahshari could improve on is being more confident in his own ability, often he would know the right answer but he would double check with me before writing it down, which he won't be able to do in future tests or exams. Another thing that I noticed from his past test was that Mahshari would often know how to do the question but wouldn't read the question fully before answering, for example writing the correct ratio but not simplifying it. Something that I would like to fix up for when we continue lessons next year is him being able to bring home his maths book from school so that I know what he's been working on in class, or a different solution would be for me to get his teacher's email address.

Mahshari did well at the quiz I gave him at the beginning of the tutorial (only needing a little bit of help/reminders), showing me that he has been picking up the content well. Towards the end of the tutorial he became really fluent at simplifying fractions and ratios, he is making really good progress!
When we start doing lessons again next year, I would like to re test Mahshari on his skills working with fractions since this will be a very important skill for the future. During the tutorial he became good at finding the highest common factor of 2 numbers (needed in order to simplify fractions etc.), but then a common mistake was for Mishari to forget what to do next, and instead of dividing the numerator and denominator by the highest common factor he would begin to replace the numerator/denominator with the highest common factor, to help him remember what to do I have written a step by step reminder in his tutor notebook.
