What do I enjoy most about tutoring? π
I enjoy moments where students might not fully understand my initial explanations.
When moments like these happen i feel energised and curious to what exactly it is that they feel as if they aren't quite getting.
In this sense i think that tutoring can be very challenging and rewarding as it can force you to rethink or 'relearn' very fundamental concepts so that they can be understood by anybody.
My Strengths as Tutor πͺ
I think getting a sense of excitement or intrigue whenever students really start to struggle with something is a natural strength of mine. I feel as if this leaves me in a place where i'm not satisfied moving on to the next topic until i believe everyone has a clear understanding. I think it also prevents me from becoming frustrated where others might.
I think another strength is that i enjoy treating students with respect. Talking to them casually yet directly, with the intent of making them comfortable enough as to freely bring up any doubts they may have about their own understanding.
Most important things I can do for a student π
From what i've experienced, sense of self, self esteem and motivation all play a crucial role in learning. In 1 on 1 learning environments it's much easier for tutors to explore why it is a kid might not understand some concepts.
I think it's crucial for kids to never feel as if the topic they are trying to understand is larger than themselves. I believe tutors should be able to manage all the aspects of enabling students to learn while having strong enough knowledge of the subject themselves to ensure kids are learning appropriate material.
