All sciences and most mathematics are interesting. When I know something others don't I feel an urge to share that knowledge with them. So tutoring the fields I'm fond of are a hobby and not work. Give him as much time as required, until the topic is fully clear or the exercise has been completed. Make the learning of the student the highest priority task and teach for his improvement and not the payment. Make sure the ideas and basics are fully understood with no doubts.
