What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
Helping students achieve and develop their skills is a satisfying feeling, particularly that 'lightbulb' moment when something clicks. I also enjoy preparing material in a way in which I hope it will get students thinking in a new or interesting way about a concept.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
Maths isn't just about memorising formulas - its much more satisfying to have a knowledge of why things are the way they are. I believe I have an ability to explain these concepts, coupled with an ability to break down these concepts into smaller components, so that students can be led to answers rather than have them provided.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
A tutor needs to be able to adapt to whatever questions or queries the student has. In my role as a PASS Leader at Adelaide Uni, I always had material prepared, which occasionally I didn't use because the students wanted to focus on something else. You need to be able to think on your feet and find a way to present the problem in a way the student can understand.
I would say that it is important that the tutor is approachable, and that the student feels they can ask anything without being criticised. "There are no dumb questions, only unanswered ones".
