What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁

What I enjoy most about teaching is seeing children having that "aha" moment once they understand a perplexing concept. It doesn't matter whether it happens in a regular class with 40 students or if it is in a one-on-one tutoring session. Teaching has always provided me with that kind of gratification. These experiences warm my heart the most, even if working towards that "aha" moment would take weeks or even months.

My Strengths as Tutor 💪

As a tutor, I believe that I have the ability to break down complex concepts and that I can make maths fun. In my previous teaching job, I had 5th and 6th-grade students who weren't able to do basic operations. What I often did was use the concrete-pictorial-abstract method in order to help them grasp these concepts. It paid off in the end. My students' performances significantly improved based on year-end assessments. Also, I made an effort to increase peer interactions and to include games in my lessons. I think that helped students conquer their fear of the subject.

Most important things I can do for a student 🏅

The most important things a tutor can do for a student are to simplify difficult concepts, to allow them to make mistakes, and to teach them to do a task independently. Once a tutor identifies what a student struggles with, the tutor must help the student make sense of the concept. Aside from this, the tutor must make the student feel safe when it comes to making mistakes. That the student will see it as a step towards learning instead of a roadblock. Lastly, providing the student with the confidence and the skills to do it on his/her own is the most important part of tutoring.
