What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁

My favourite thing about tutoring is the amazing impact I can make on the outlook of my students. The most rewarding thing, and the reason why I am still tutoring 2 years later, is the absolutely joy I get from teaching someone something new, and changing their outlook towards maths especially. It is taken as something hard and challenging, which is a notion I always strive to deconstruct in my students' minds. I love seeing them grow and develop into problem solvers and students enthusiastic about maths, instead of moping around and thinking they're not good enough!

My Strengths as Tutor 💪

One important skill I utilise in every lesson is the ability to make my students comfortable. I believe there can be no real learning without the student being at ease and feeling like they're in a safe environment, free to make mistakes and learn from them. I always aim to foster this feeling, and encourage students to see their education as a gift and as an amazing opportunity, rather than getting bogged down by the difficulty of the system and competitive pressures from all around them. I aim to equip my students so that they are actively pursuing their learning, both in and out of class.

Most important things I can do for a student 🏅

A tutor's role, I believe, is to guide the student in the correct direction. It is not to provide the answers the minute the students get stuck, because that will result in students who cannot think for themselves. That is the major goal that I set for myself as tutor; can I make my students independent learners, able to think and approach problems without feeling scared, challenged and insufficient? That is why I encourage my students to make mistakes, and to struggle with their problems .by themselves, and see if they can figure out a way. This is the true meaning of teaching, in my mind.
