What do I enjoy most about tutoring? π
I love maths. It's like doing puzzles. Sharing that with people is fantastic.
I'm big on patience. Sometimes schools don't have the time to sit with a student and identify the hurdles that are holding a child back from achieving their full potential. I can do that. It is amazing to keep going back to what the student can do, and then make bridges to open up new capabilities.
My Strengths as Tutor πͺ
Since 2019 I have been tutoring Maths K-12 and remedial English, all ages.
My most favourite subject is Maths. I have base 10 blocks, cuisenaire rods, different types of abacus, plus things that can be drawn to help kids make those connections. I've taught Standard Maths up to HSC level many times. I'm happy to help out with higher level Maths too.
On the English side, I am trained in the Barton method which is a system recognised for helping students with dyslexia. I am also in the process of gaining accreditation with the Institute for Excellence in Writing.
Most important things I can do for a student π
I can be there for a student and reassure them that human brains are sometimes complicated but once you take down the barriers to learning, then you can really take off. It's alright to be confused, it's a sign you're thinking. You're almost there, and if we talk about it and try some simpler examples, then it will all fall into place.
