What do I enjoy most about tutoring? π
In high school, I discovered that I had a keen interest for academics in general, and in particular for physics. What I came to understand is that this interest stemmed, fundamentally, from a proper understanding of the subjects. I truly believe that enjoying a topic in school is easy enough if a student is given the chance properly understand the underlying principles. There's a certain satisfaction that comes with that. For me, tutoring is about allowing younger students to realize their potential, and to enjoy academia by properly understanding it.
My Strengths as Tutor πͺ
With an engineering degree, I do have a firm understanding of most STEM topics. Additionally, I have always excelled in English and philosophy-based subjects within the humanities. However, I think that my sociable nature and thorough teaching style are actually my strengths as a tutor, beyond simple academic proficiency. During university, I had professors who were obviously brilliant, but were unable to properly convey their own understanding to the students in front of them. That ability to articulate one's knowledge in a logical fashion is vital, in my opinion, for any effective tutor.
Most important things I can do for a student π
I touched on some of these points in my previous answers, but as a tutor I believe the ultimate goal should be to provide one's students with an academic toolbox in the form of an understanding of the fundamental principles of any given topic. By covering first principles, and providing students with problem-solving abilities, he or she can then progress through academia on their own much less strenuously. This, I think, is the basis for the real enjoyment of any topic that's so important in allowing students to excel in their coursework.
