What do I enjoy most about tutoring? ๐
I enjoy the process of adapting my teaching to individual students and the breakthrough moments that occur as a particular explanation or demonstration resonates with a student. At Code Camp in particular, most students have not been taught computer programming before so we use a wide variety of teaching styles and demonstrations. Making the classes fun is both enjoyable and an effective way of maintaining students' attention.
My Strengths as Tutor ๐ช
I think I am generally fun and relaxed to work with even when the content is difficult and complex. I find this to not only be a more enjoyable approach but that it produces better results. In my experience students often feel intimidated by content when they feel they are behind other students. A relaxed attitude can reduce this stress and demonstrate that they can master this content just like they have with other content before.
Most important things I can do for a student ๐
I consider the two most important things for a tutor to do are to first inspire confidence in the student and identify the area of difficulty as precisely as possible. Students are generally not equipped to identify the precise area of their difficulty as they don't have the knowledge to fully place it in the context of the subject. By demonstrating the context of their problem the student often realises that they simply have a small difficulty to correct instead of feeling as though they have a bigger problem with the whole subject.
