What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
I like passing on knowledge and it doesn't matter if that is at a university level through publishing papers or working with children. Some of my best experiences come from working with year 12 students that are about to finish high school and just needed to finish one for exam. The final exams in the Netherlands count for 50% of your total mark and some students just need that little bit of extra help to pass. We used to organize a day of 12h of math on one day to prepare them and it is great feeling to later on get a phone call from them hearing they managed to pass the course.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
My absolute nr 1. strength is that I'm passionate about teaching and sciences. Yes, I have experience with teaching at different levels which helps and my knowledge about the subjects is on point. But those skills rarely matter I feel. I've never got a compliment from my former students about that, what they liked about me is that I can make math fun enough for them so that they are putting in just that little bit more of an effort and feel a bit more confident.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
It depends a little bit on age but the older they get the more important confidence is going to be and giving the students confidence is the most important job. I'm not going to teach a 12 year old a lot more, they have spent years in school and they have all the knowledge they need. The important job of tutor is to make them believe that they have the skill. Achieve that and their marks go up.
