What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
I enjoy seeing the face on my friends and students when I help them to understand a difficult topic. For example, my friend found integration in maths quite difficult, but with a couple of minutes and a thorough explanation, he could do it with ease. The act of helping someone else to improve their skills is extremely rewarding as schoolwork, and math specifically, is not something you just forget after school. Mathematical Methods, a VCE subject, is the main prerequisite to university, and maths is used by everyone on a daily basis. This means that by helping a student today, I am strengthening their future tomorrow.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
I'm a good communicator and express my thoughts and explanations clearly, to ensure that my student fully understands what the answer is to a question and how it is derived. I am also persistent, but don't badger, to allow a positive and strong learning environment. I ensure that a student feels comfortable around me and gains the confidence to express their ideas and answers out loud, so they can carry this confidence into the classroom and further on in their lives. Most importantly, I equip my students with the skills necessary to critically analyse and solve problems they encounter, so that they have the ability to succeed on their own.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is not only explain an answer to a student, but actually make sure that they understand how the answer is derived and can do it themselves. There is no point in rote learning something when you can understand how an answer comes to be. As Albert Einstein said, 'Education is not the learning of facts, but the training of the mind to think'. I am a strong believer in the idea that teaching a student how to solve a problem is more important than simply showing them the answer.
