What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁

The thing that I derive the most enjoyment from when tutoring is seeing the confidence of students in their own abilities that can be lacking, increase. A lot of students who come to tutoring can be accustomed to seeing themselves struggling on problems as a purely negative experience and something that they have to minimise as much as possible. But the reality is that struggling is an inevitable part of learning anything, and that the best learners are those who are intimately familiar with struggling. Students who know this are more likely to succeed and effectively learn.

My Strengths as Tutor 💪

I'm excellent at engaging students, personable, down to earth and easy to work with. Students should find tutoring a comfortable experience where they can calmly engage in learning. I am confident in my ability to facilitate this as I have extensive experience in communicating to young people, from across a variety of contexts from teaching programming in a high school club to facilitating and supervising student fun at a National Youth Science Forum camp.

Most important things I can do for a student 🏅

The most important thing a tutor must do for a student is to equip them with the tools and confidence they need to effectively apply auto-didactic learning strategies in a critical manner. This can be accomplished by encouraging independent studies and 'thinking out loud' so that students can understand general approaches to solving problems and thinking critically that can be applied universally.
