What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
Although I have never done formal tutoring, I have often helped my classmates and sisters with schoolwork, and have also spent time training new employees in my former job in hospitality. It is so rewarding to know that you have helped somebody gain new understanding, and it is all worth it for that moment you see the lightbulb switch on in their eyes, even if there was struggle along the way and you had to step back and rethink your approach multiple times.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
I think as a tutor my strengths are in my methods of communication and my ability to rework my explanations again and again in order to frame it in a way that is understandable. Additionally, I’d say that my own experiences in study and trying different study methods throughout high school and particularly senior have equipped me with many useful strategies both for learning specific content and for study generally. Growing up with a mother who is a teacher really exposed me to the wide range of different learners, just hearing her stories and ways in which she managed and passed advice to me.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
First and foremost I think that is having patience. People do not all learn in the same way and as I mentioned before, when teaching somebody, half the job is just figuring out the best way to frame it, something which requires patience and perseverance. What is also important as a tutor is not just telling students what they need to know, but leading them on the path to figure it out so they don’t just rote learn but actually gain understanding, something which really helps in making the knowledge ‘stick’.
