What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
I enjoy seeing the kids I mentor understand a topic that they previously struggled to make sense of. Sometimes, just breaking down a big topic into smaller chunks and explaining a complex subject in simple terms makes a massive difference and helps someone understand something a lot better. Seeing this process in the kids I mentor would be very fulfilling.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
Having graduated high school recently, I still remember how stressful school was and so I can empathise greatly with my students. Additionally, being a third-year medical student, I have a lot of experience interacting with people from various backgrounds, making it easier to communicate with people in general. I have also been told that I am a good listener which is a crucial skill for effective teaching.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
I believe the ability to be adaptable and always open to changing one's teaching methods to suit a student's learning style is key to an effective student-teacher relationship. Listening to a student and trying to work around their needs is definitely one of the most important things that can be done for a student.

- Did some English workbook questions - Jacob managed to make good sentences with the words I asked him to spell - Did some addition of single digit numbers with the number line and mentally
- Initially, Jacob struggled with doing addition mentally. However, after a while he was able to do them better as he made a system for himself. - He was a bit tired towards the end of the class and lost some focus there

- Jacob wanted to do some English questions from a workbook to start - was eager - Did some revision of spelling of numbers from 1-20. Mostly remembered. - Went over counting numbers over 100. Generally well remembered. Needed some help initially but was able to carry on. - Did addition with the number line. Generally done well. - Tried to do some basic mental addition without the number line. Was very impressed with his ability to use his fingers. Can work towards not using his fingers as help but good that he is able to do these questions on his own.
- Jacob was not eager to do maths initially. Was a bit stubborn and wanted to do the English worksheets his way but after some convincing he listened. - Still needs practice with spelling of 8, 11, 12 and 18. - Continue mental addition questions and work towards not using fingers as help.

- Revised spelling words from previous weeks. Jacob remembers them quite well. - Was given information from school that says Jacob is behind and should work on counting forwards/backwards from 100, addition/subtraction until 50 and differentiating between small/large numbers. - Went over how to spell and write out numbers up to 100. - Went over counting to 100 and above 100. - Jacob overall seemed very focused and determined to spell the words correctly. I could see him putting effort to try and remember the spellings.
- Need to remember how to spell the words: eight, eleven, twelve, twenty, thirty, forty and hundred - It has been a while since we revised counting above 100; Jacob found it difficult initially to begin but with some prompting, he was able to follow. - Need to work towards being able to count without prompt.

Jacob did well with his homework and we revised the spelling of words from the last few weeks. His spelling is quite good with only a few mistakes in some of the tricky words. We also went over how to spell out numbers from 1-20 - will revisit during the next lesson
Jacob's handwriting still needs work. When he is focused, the writing is better but he needs more overall practice. He seemed more focused today as well.
