What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁

What I enjoy most about tutoring is watching the lightbulb moment happen within a student. Sometimes when they don't understand a concept, it is easy for them to get frustrated and want to give up. But being able to reframe the way they think about a topic, or provide a unique mnemonic, and watching them use that and apply it to their own special thought process is super rewarding. Furthermore, watching them gain confidence in answering questions or applying their knowledge in real time is so fulfilling!

My Strengths as Tutor 💪

My strengths are how widely I can empathize with students. I have a very versatile teaching style, in that it's different for every student. What works for one student might not work for another and it is important to try it out, and adapt my teachings. For example, if one of my students really loves superheroes, I will try my best to create a helpful mnemonic that they can resonate with. And I would hope that the next time they're taking a school test, my fun, approachable methods pop into their head and make subjects seem less daunting! I loved learning this way, so I like to pay it forward.

Most important things I can do for a student 🏅

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is be present as a support system, and a peer more than a teacher. If a student is coming for tutoring, they clearly want to improve in a certain area, or are just looking for supplemental support. We are not meant to replace their teachers in any way, but instead offer a helping hand in areas they may struggle with. It is important to draw that boundary from the beginning, and let the student know that we are not there to judge their thought processes, or how fast they can come up with an answer, but more so to be a helpful nudge!
