What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
I enjoy helping people and seeing an individual students' confidence and belief in themselves grow. I feel that this is the most rewarding aspect of tutoring. I also wish to end the stigma that maths is boring, though helping students understand and work through problems. The progress and growth is so inspiring and I love to help where I can.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
I believe that I am an excellent listener and have the ability to communicate effectively with others. This allows me to comprehend what each student needs and as a result how I can best help them. I also understand individuality, in that not all teaching techniques work for all students .Maths has always been a passion of mine and I wish to instil this love of numbers and learning onto my students.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
In my opinion, a tutor is someone whose aim is to help a student in all the ways they can. They not only provide academic support through tutorials, guide practices questions and reviews but also possibly even more importantly, give the student the confidence to believe in themselves. This is done through nurturing a safe and judgement free environment where the student can make mistakes and grow and improve in the process. Overall I believe that growth and confidence are the most important things.

When looking at the exam notification given to Leila, I have decided to spend this week working on congruence and angles as it was mentioned in the notification. Today Leila gave me a run down on what she has learnt in class and also retained from past years. She was able to remember the congruency rules and also rules for complementary angles & supplementary angles, as well as alternate, co-interior and corresponding angles.
Leila gets stuck when applying the rules. For example the SAS rule (Side-Angle-Side) Staes that two sides and their INTERIOR angle must be the same to determine congruency. Leila often forgets the interior angle part and sees any to sides and any angle and deems the triangles congruent. This however is not the case. We will continue to drill these rules and their stipulations. I am not however worries as this has only just been introduced to her and is quite complex work.

With help, Leila was able to complete the congruency work, however I am more impressed with her retained knowledge on linear equations as she was able to answer the two revision questions I brought today with ease.
When working through the worksheet today on triangle congruency, Leila kept not actually asserting any of the rules we worked on on Tuesday. She knows this topic is on congruency and therefore must not forget the congruency tests.

Today was the last lesson before Leilas next exam. I am very hopeful in her doing well, as while completing the mock exam I designed for her, she was able to complete it with almost no help from myself, and even in certain instances, caught her own little mistakes, correcting them and the continuing to answer the question correctly.
Not so much an improvement comment, as an observation. But I strongly believe that Leila gets anxious in exam and her second guessing herself is what causes her to do not as well in her tests. This is as especially in her last test which I pointed out to both her and you, that wither the working was correct but the answer written was not, or in some cases, the answers were there, but no working was given. I have re-iterated this point with her today, encouraging her to take her time on Thursday and not stress, hopefully she feels prepared and is happy with her efforts thus far.

Due to her request, today we set aside her maths work to put in some extra time on essay writing for English. She requested this as she has an assessment tomorrow and wanted the extra help. We did a practice question after Leila was able to, in her own words and knowledge, inform me on the ‘A-L-A-R-M’ process of paragraph writing. Her knowledge of the content is all there.
I noticed however, that she struggles more on the. Actual process of writing the paragraph then the steps of knowledge. She was constantly seeking validation and asking if what she was writing was making sense. I continued to tell her it did but she would not write anything without checking first. IN my opinion, English is harder to tutor and guide than maths as there is no real right to wrong answer. She just. Needs to build confidence and believe in herself. Once she does her writing will improve tenfold.
