What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
During high school, I was tutored in certain subjects. I never enjoyed it- it always felt like a chore attending my sessions. I realised I didn't enjoy it because I was not passionate about the subjects. My tutor certainly was not either. This impacted the way I learnt content and how I learnt content. I have always enjoyed teaching, and the self-satisfaction it gives me knowing I was able to help out a fellow student or friend. What makes tutoring enjoyable for me, is the sole reason off enjoy teaching in general, and enjoying the topic.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
As a fellow student, my previous 'tutored' experience, I believe has given me strengths for my teaching capabilities such as:
- Understanding children/adolescents have individual learning capabilities
- I am patient.
- I understand the fear or embarrassment of not understanding a concept and being too afraid to ask questions. I am able to notice when students are unsure of things but say the opposite - because of this, I believe I can create an environment for the students to feel safe with me and want to learn.
- I can teach students how to develop study skills.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
I believe a tutor plays a big role in a student's educational journey and outside education. The most important things I consider a tutor to do for a student are:
- creating an opportunity for a student to learn about themselves
- cater to students' individual needs.
- Always be encouraging.
A tutor has the role of teaching a student how to learn. They are not there just to do students' homework but to teach the students to be self-sufficient in their learning by exploring various methods. They are there to guide the student with patience ad understanding.
