Sofia's counting skills were very impressive. She was able to demonstrate her understanding of multiplying sides to find an area, and to halve this for a triangle.

In half an hour, I did not identify areas of improvement although we landed on more difficult questions involving areas of composite shapes. Sofia was given guidance on how to add the areas separately.

Sofia showed an understanding of following times for a particular bus route on a vertical line and identifying different bus routes by moving horizontally across a timetable. With guidance, Sofia also understood what it meant to arrive before a certain time and how to identify the corresponding most appropriate time on a timetable.

Minusing times was a bit of a challenge. We spent a fair amount of time working on subtracting minutes from given times. This is a difficult concept at first.

Evan did brilliantly in most of his work. One question he was able to demonstrate understanding of algebra by elimination of symbols to solve simultaneous equations. This was impressive. Evan also displays a natural understanding of algebraic techniques to solve equations.

Paying attention to the question and wording. As guidance, also explained when questions are not clear to use common sense and ensure the answers are within the list. Explained how to use common sense and working through elimination methods when selecting right answer. Evan needs to make sense of the question in line of what the possible given answers are.
