I think just making it a comfortable and enjoyable experience is the most important. If a student feels that they are enjoying it they are more likely to pay attention so they can get the most out of the time they have with me so they can go to school feeling confident in there ability. I think I’m an approachable and social person which is…

The important thing is to develop the student's ability to independently study. It is like that proverb 'Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.' There are going to be times where the student will find themselves in a position with an urgent question regarding their assignment which is…

I believe the most important thing which a tutor can do for a student is not only teach them what they need to know but teach them the skills which they need to succeed on their own. I believe this because although a tutor can help with their learning, they can't be there every single step of the way, especially after high school. These skills…

Identifying the student's strengths and weaknesses is crucial. I would ensure their strengths are reflected through their work and that we are spending extra time focusing on the weaker areas. As a tutor, you act as the student's moral support, as the subjects they are receiving tutoring for are the subjects they find the most challenging. You are…

A tutor must be an example to be followed, with his integrity, ethical values and motivation. The understanding the student's abilities, capacities and weakness are essential to creating a good level of communication and the development of a good strategy to achieve goals. The tutor skill of managing challenges in such a way that will build up the…

Inside ProspectTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Hannah focused on simplifying fractions and converting them into decimals using long division.

Year 8 student Sarah worked through algebra expansion and applied the difference of two squares to solve problems.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Jack practised solving quadratic equations and calculated the distance between two points on a coordinate plane.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student often made small calculation errors in algebra because her working was cramped—she could consider spacing out her writing, which would help her see things clearer and avoid miscues.

In Year 11, forgetting to inform the tutor about an upcoming test meant missing out on targeted preparation.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student sometimes forgot to complete homework and needed reminders to use notes more actively when stuck on multiplication tables.

When distracted during lessons (as noted in Year 8), it led to confusion with sign rules and slower progress on new topics.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Prospect recently saw Athena, a high school student, take real initiative by constructing her own step-by-step solutions for challenging algebra problems—something she'd hesitated to do before.

Another high schooler, Constanza, has shifted from passively listening to actively asking clarifying questions about fractions and now tackles new equations much faster than at the start of term.

In Year 4, Alyse was able to apply formulas independently when solving worded problems after initially needing lots of prompting; this time she completed her worksheet without any hints.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Prospect Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Rosary School.
