Personally, a biology tutor is someone outside of school who the student can rely on for their studies. Students show their vulnerability here so that tutor can build them to be strong at school. So a tutor can help the student be strong on their subjects and understand the subject with life. Understanding the student on what they need first and…

I believe a biology tutor should be a role model. Where they should embody not only the study skills they teach but also be honest, patient and a motivator, all whilst being professional. Through this a student can grow both academically and as a person allowing them to reap the rewards more deeply. A tutors role is to listen and provide their…

The most important thing a biology tutor can do is to practice empathy in order to ensure the student knows they're in a safe environment where they are allowed to make mistakes and learn from them. Being kind and really listening to what they say to you is also essential, as you don't want them to feel like they can't talk to you, as this will…

To give them confidence and make them feel good about themselves. There is nothing more counter-productive than making a student feel disheartened and bad about themselves, since self-doubt yields anxiety and often poor performance in exams. Establishing a basis of trust is vital for the success of the student, so that they feel in a safe space to…

The tutor can assist the student in the difficulties they are experiencing in grasping the core concept of the subject. Trying to develop interest in the subject by relating the curriculum with everyday examples that are easier for the student to comprehend and understand. And then build their ability to express it correctly in the exam so that…

Teach and help them learn by listening to what it is that they need help with. Each student is different so developing an individual way with each one is very important as a tutor. Honesty, if something is wrong with something I can tell a student how to fix it straight away. Another strength of mine is teaching someone how to do something rather…

Inside PrimbeeTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Cailyn worked on two-step equations, focusing on changing the subject in algebraic expressions and using inverse operations.

Year 11 student Daniel reviewed non-right-angled trigonometry, tackling bearings questions and practicing with obtuse angles.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Nicholas practiced HSC-style network concepts, including identifying critical paths and applying forward/backward scanning to solve scheduling problems.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student tended to keep her working "contained within her mind," making it difficult to spot where errors in algebra crept in, especially when tackling equations with negatives.

In Year 8, one learner struggled to remember which values to input first on the calculator—"occasionally putting a value before another, resulting in a negative result when it should be positive."

For a Year 5 session, spelling mistakes appeared repeatedly in written work, leading to the creation of targeted lists rather than progress on PEEL paragraphs.

When homework is not regularly checked or retained (as seen in Year 7 algebra), gaps quickly resurface and must be retaught.

Recent Achievements

One Primbee tutor noticed a Year 11 student who used to hesitate with HSC algebra now choosing the right approach independently and completing all assigned questions without prompting.

In Year 8, a student who often doubted her working with pronumerals started expanding terms confidently and showing her steps without asking for reassurance every time.

Meanwhile, a Year 3 learner who once struggled to remember carrying tens in addition is now marking her work carefully and submitting homework error-free. At the end of her session, she even completed all subtraction problems on her own without needing any hints.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Warrawong District Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Primbee Public School.
