The most important thing I believe a tutor can offer to their student is focusing on the students individual needs, confidence and long term learning skills. Providing personalised attention will allow the student to understand the concept to a greater degree and thus enhance their knowledge and will also build their individual self esteem as…

Changing a students mindset and reigniting their passion for learning. Some students can lose belief in themselves and don’t know their true ability to learn and apply knowledge. Getting that spark back in them and making them become confident in their own ability can be very rewarding and can make learning fun again. I’m a good listener, I…

The most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is to foster a passion in the student for the subject they are teaching. Once the tutor accomplishes this, the student will be more motivated to work towards improving their results. As such, with some guidance from their tutor, the student will achieve incredible results. One of my main…

I think the most important thing would be to assist a student in achieving their goals but to also challenge them to reach their potential. A tutor should be able to not only teach the content required by the syllabus to also go beyond and provide tips for effective studying or provide advice on future career paths. I think my key strength would…

When I tutor students, I tend not to follow the same pattern or process of learning for every kid. I believe tutor can play huge role in a student’s life when it comes to teaching them how to fish rather than serving the fish. The ability to remain calm and composed in any situation I think is my biggest strength. Having to deal with kids who…

Initially, he/she must understand the background (educational / intellectual) of the student(s). Moreover, need to understand on where the student is struggling and what he/she wants to achieve. It will give a tutor a great perspective on when and how to start. Then, develop a lesson plan accordingly. Be the guide but not a helper of a student. It…

empower them for their life goal, and know why study is important. Students have to be proactive, tutor will not be always with you in your life, at some point of life, you need to be your own tutor. Instead of teaching them to learn from me, I am empowering them to develop self-learning skills. I am experienced and interactive. I tailor my…

For me, it is definitely is to help the students feel confident in their lessons. This means I would help them to fully understand their lessons and get them prepared if the teachers ask them any questions. I have a lot of experience with kids (I was a Teacher Assistant and a Football coach) so I know how to communicate well with kids at all…

The crucial factor a tutor can assist student is show them where to look as most students will have their own way of finding the direction. What I mean by that is teach and make them understand, give them multiple approach of solving an equation, and later they will choose what best suits them. I would say my strength will be the ability to relate…

For me, I think the comfortable study atmosphere is vital for the student. The student will not be able to study efficiently in anxiety. Sometimes a student might know the knowledge, but they are too stressful or not confident to write it out. Providing a comfortable study atmosphere for them will be helpful. Also, it is significant to answer the…

I think above all else, the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to help them and give them the necessary skills and understanding to be able to work independently, and to better understand the studying strategy that suits them best. It is important that a tutor is able to teach a student but more important than this is that a…

Inside MirandaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Diyian worked on fractions, decimals, multiplication, and long division to build confidence with number operations.

In Year 8, Shayan tackled past selective exam questions and refined his writing skills through assignment support.

For Year 9, Amber focused on solving algebraic equations from her school textbook and completed NAPLAN English tasks covering spelling, punctuation, and grammar.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 maths, messy and inconsistent handwriting ("Neat handwritten is needed, otherwise, examiners wouldn't be able to read his work") made it difficult to track working steps during algebra exercises.

A Year 11 student repeatedly skipped writing down intermediate steps in equation solving; as one tutor noted, "Need to write down everything in mind on paper and formulating equations." This led to confusion when reviewing errors.

Meanwhile, a Year 6 student arrived without prepared questions for English comprehension practice—this limited the depth of discussion possible that session.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Miranda noticed a big change in one Year 10 student who used to rush through financial maths by memorising answers; now, she takes time to actually work through each step and explain her reasoning aloud.

Another high schooler had been hesitant to tackle algebra on his own but recently solved a tricky problem independently for the first time.

In primary, a Year 4 student's hand-writing has noticeably improved—she now spaces out her words and slows down when copying text, something she struggled with before.

Last session, Shayan achieved an excellent 90% score on his maths test after weeks of targeted practice.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Miranda Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Port Hacking High School.
