I believe an english tutor should be able to explain things clearly and stop the flow of teaching when necessary if a student needs to revise a difficult concept, as I believe it is better to know the concepts now rather than leave those areas to remain unclarified and which can and does affect students come a test or exam day. I believe that a…

The most important and valuable thing an english tutor could ever do for a student is instil a love for a subject into the child. It is important to make the student feel valued, and as a educator be open to adapting learning and teaching pedagogies to inclusively meet each individual students needs as best as possible. I have a passion and love…

Build the confidence of the student.Whether it be in asking a question from me or confidently answering a quesyion on a paper. Also making the student see the beauty of what they are learning is important. Learning not just for the sake of a grade but learning to understand the beauty behind concepts . I am very patient and understanding, which…

As an english tutor, our goal is not only for our students to pass the subject, we also want our students to reach their full potential. We can do so by giving our students our support, and giving them time to digest what they have learnt from the lesson. We can let them know that it is normal to struggle at first especially if it is a new topic…

Needless to say, students, especially those in their teenage years tend to struggle with their hormones and volatile emotions. The best an english tutor can do is to never give up on a student and be understanding of their situation. Once that trust is built, it creates a healthier and more productive space for learning. In my opinion, a great…

I think giving a student a sense of confidence in their own abilities is very important as a tutor; ultimately, every student has some limitations, but to push those boundaries a little forward, a student must find the inner confidence to try a little harder, as opposed to accepting their present ability as final. As a tutor, showing a student…

Inside MeltonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Zoe worked on understanding algebraic expressions and practiced basic fraction and decimal operations using a short diagnostic quiz.

Year 10 student Alex focused on interpreting displacement/time and velocity/time graphs in physics, as well as applying equations of motion for constant acceleration.

For primary, Year 3 student Aaylah tackled reading comprehension with fiction texts and improved her addition skills by learning column-by-column methods alongside practice with clock time activities.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10 algebra, he skipped showing steps in working, which hid sign errors—this made it harder to spot where misunderstandings occurred.

In English (Year 8), the habit of avoiding re-reading written work meant sentences sometimes lacked clarity for readers.

For a Year 6 student, incomplete homework limited chances to consolidate new maths skills between lessons.

A Year 3 student hesitated with column addition, often leaving answers unfinished if unsure how to carry numbers.

Meanwhile, in VCE Maths Methods, over-reliance on calculators was observed during polynomial factor checks; this slowed progress when synthetic division was needed by hand.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Melton recently noticed Colin move from struggling to start his creative writing assignments to actively brainstorming and branching out ideas on migration, building a much stronger story framework than before.

Another high schooler, Kaan, who previously hesitated with statistics and probability, now confidently applies different strategies to interpret graphs and frequency tables after several targeted sessions.

Meanwhile, Aaylah in primary school—who used to skip words and lose her place while reading—has begun sounding out unfamiliar words independently and was able to read a passage well enough to answer questions about it.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Melton Library & Learning Hub—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Dominic's School.
