I have been teaching and mentoring for more than 7 years, and it is nice to see where my students have reached. Is to provide support, as I student I know it gets hard to understand what teachers are trying to say. A tutor is meant to simplify what is being taught in class and helping out the student to be prepared for their future adventures in an academic level. I am a talkative and hardworking person. The most important thing a tutor can do for their student is to help them fully understand whatever they're studying. This means going beyond surface-level knowledge which most students can easily grasp, and engaging directly with the student in order to ensure they have a deep knowledge of the subject by the end. Further, another important thing…

Not regurgitate the same information given on google or at schools regarding their difficult topics, but instead to approach the student and the lesson with the ambition to simplify complexities in your own intuitive way. This is with respect to the student's preferential medium for learning, which you as a tutor need to manipulate effectively to…

Helping understanding topics and key areas is important, however for me, giving students the confidence to approach new topics with a 'can-do' attitude helps them in wider areas of their life and increases their self belief. Within the professional tutor/student relationship the best thing a tutor can leave with a student is a good work ethic, that was enforced not harshly but rather within a positive environment. Inside LeppingtonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Reuben focused on multiplying two-digit numbers and linking this to division, using step-by-step examples.

For Year 11, Sarah worked through chemical equilibrium concepts, including Le Chatelier's Principle and the Haber process, making use of real-life scenarios.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Jack revised integration techniques with trigonometric functions and tackled practice questions involving areas between curves to strengthen his calculus skills.

Recent Challenges

In Year 4 maths, one student avoided writing out multiplication steps and instead counted on fingers, which slowed progress—she needs to practice more and not rely on her fingers.

For a Year 12 chemistry student, over-reliance on notes rather than making her own summaries led to surface-level understanding: "needs to spend more time on making notes in order for a better understanding of all the concepts in this module."

Meanwhile, a Year 12 maths student skipped checking working in integration questions; when errors occurred, he struggled to spot them until they were pointed out. Marks slipped away quietly during calculation-heavy sections.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Leppington recently noticed a Year 11 student who used to skip questions if unsure now tries every calculus problem, even when he isn't confident, showing real persistence and initiative.

In Year 12 chemistry, another student has started bringing her own study notes to sessions and is able to explain the structures and functions of alcohols in her own words—something she was hesitant to attempt before.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who once struggled with multiplication now quickly identifies patterns in times tables and finishes her homework without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Carnes Hill Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Amity College Leppington Campus.
