I think the most important things are making the student feel supported, helping them actually understand the material, not just memorise it, and building their confidence so they believe they can do it on their own. I’m patient, good at breaking things down in a way that makes sense, and I try to adapt to how each student learns best. I also…

I think that I am hard working which is one of the greatest strength of me as a tutor. I can help the children in achieving their goals. Secondly, I give the detailed knowledge…

I believe that the most important thing a tutor can do for their student would be to listen to them and understand things from their student's perspective. Clear communication mixed with empathy and patience can go a long way with students, especially adolescents. It's extremely vital for us to understand what a student's view of his subjects m I…

A tutor should not only help students understand the subject matter but also build their confidence and independent learning skills. It’s important to listen carefully, identify where they’re struggling, and provide guidance that helps them think critically and solve problems on their own. Ultimately, a tutor’s role is to empower students to…

Tutoring provides a support system for students in their learning at school, and hence a tutor first and foremost must be reliable. Whether that be tailoring teaching methods and materials to make it more digestible or guiding students through practice questions, a tutor should be able to gain the trust of their students so that students may be…

A tutor must be knowledgeable in a subject area and be able to convert that knowledge into easy to understand ways for a student in order to increase the learning efficiency. I try to find a holistic approach to helping a student, finding what ways or learning styles help a student best, whilst paying attention to their level of stimulation and…

A tutor can help a student to gain confidence. Usually students lose confidence and thus lose interest in a subject. Mathematics, being really important for career opportunities, is an interesting subject, we just need the right support at the right time and that's what tutors are there for. Confidence and hard work is the key to succeed in any…

A tutor firstly have to understand a student or knows better what the way that student likes of teaching . A student preference is always a first poriority of a teacher as I always believe that a teacher is like a candle who burn itself and give light to others. I think the strength and weakness of a teacher is their students . If a student…

Ensuring that they genuinely understand concepts through providing challenging questions or examples rather than simply asking whether they feel confident with a topic, as this was a trap I fell in and I would always answer yes to, to not seem 'dumb'. Important aspect a tutor can do for a student is to believe in their learning and being patience with the improvement of the student. Inside Lalor ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Ava focused on rearranging complex equations and practiced probability questions involving factorials.

In Year 10, Jayden reviewed parabolas and their graphs, including vertex identification, and also tackled basic probability scenarios.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Emily worked through trigonometry problems—using the sine rule to find missing angles—and completed revision on linear relationships by sketching different types of graphs.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 algebra, a student often left out steps when rearranging equations—he skipped showing steps in algebra, which hid sign errors—making it harder to check work and fix mistakes.

A Year 11 student avoided writing out working for word problems, leading to uncertainty about which formula applied and slower progress with exam-style questions.

In Year 10, hesitation with graphing parabolas showed up as reluctance to try without a worked example at hand.

For one Year 4 learner, forgetting to arrange data samples in order led to confusion during statistics activities, leaving her unsure whether she had the right answer or not.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Lalor Park recently saw a Year 10 student, who used to quietly guess when stuck, now openly asking questions and explaining his steps as he tackled tricky gradient problems.

Another high schooler surprised herself by using the sine rule correctly in several structured problems after weeks of confusion—she even volunteered to show her method to peers during group work.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who once hesitated with worded maths tasks worked out tough perimeter questions independently and checked her answers without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Lalor Park Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Lalor Park Public School.
