For me, it's super important for an english tutor to keep the lesson interactive and somewhat interesting, as interest fuels motivation. However, it's important not to forget that repetition is key in learning and retaining information. Certain math concepts need to be repeated to engrain into memory. Essays and writing styles have to be written…

I believe that an english tutor should instil a positive mindset to learning in each student, by encouraging them to challenge themselves, be persistent, and know that making mistakes is a part of learning. I also feel that a tutor should teach their students practical strategies and skills that students can learn to use independently. This way,…

The most important thing about being an english tutor is definitely creating output for the student as effectively and efficiently as possible. I am…

I believe that the purpose of an english tutor is to tailor their teaching as closely as possible to the needs of every individual student; tutors should never take a one-size fits all approach to teaching. Whether that be addressing specific areas of weakness, or adopting a particular teaching style, every student has their own unique needs and…

Help them learn the way they learn best. Education is extremely important, and often students that seek tuition are having troubles with the work, which is often caused by the teacher not teaching them in the way that they learn best. And that is okay, so as a tutor, I would want to see how they learn best, and help them to enjoy and achieve in…

Inside KingstonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Aiden worked on solving quadratic equations in Maths and practiced calculating moles in Chemistry, using real-world examples to reinforce concepts.

For Year 10, Priya focused on exponential and logarithmic functions, tackling laws of exponents and properties of logarithms through targeted questions and practice problems.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Emily reviewed conditional probability by drawing tree diagrams for multi-step events and also strengthened her skills with linear equations using algebraic techniques.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 mathematics, a student frequently relied on reassurance from the tutor before attempting questions independently; as noted, "when I tell her to do the questions independently [she] always looks up at me for reassurance of her methods." This self-doubt led to hesitation and slowed progress during algebra practice.

In Year 11 chemistry, another student's revision was hampered by over-reliance on calculators for basic equations and uncertainty with recalling constants like Avogadro's number.

Meanwhile, a primary student in Year 4 did not complete homework and only managed half a lesson due to fatigue—missing out on vital multiplication table practice that week.

Recent Achievements

One Kingston tutor noticed a Year 11 student who had previously hesitated to ask questions now openly requests help when stuck, making it much easier to address tricky topics like derivatives and rates of change.

In another session, a Year 10 student revisited her exam mistakes in trigonometry—this time, she could spot where she went wrong and correct her answers independently, which hadn't happened before.

Meanwhile, in primary maths, a younger student started the lesson unsure about problem-solving but finished by tackling new fraction questions on her own after initial support.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Marsden Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Kingston State School.
