A tutor can be a role model for the student. Generally students observe character and skills of a tutor and in most cases they try to imitate them. As a tutor we have to be a responsible individual gradually transferring our personality to aspiring students. After all today's students are tommorrow's mentors. I think my determination and my…

I have the capabilities to interact with my students effectively and ensure that they have a conducive environment to learn and develop. This also entails the development of confidence…

Varying teaching methods to provide students with a greater opportunity to learn is important. Every student has different strengths and weaknesses. Instead of just focusing on one method that only appeals to a single learning style, varying teaching techniques can cater your lessons to different learning styles. Students will be more successful…

The most important thing a tutor can do is be kind and patient with a student. Tutoring can be frustrating but a tutor must never make their student feel bad or insecure even when they themselves are a bit agitated. I love to make my kids smile and feel good about themselves, even if a concept just isn't sticking for them. I am full of a lot of…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to provide clear explanations, build their confidence, and create a supportive learning environment. A tutor should break down complex topics in a way that makes sense to the student, ensuring they truly understand rather than just memorize. Encouragement is also key—helping…

As a tutor, I feel the ultimate goal is to benefit the student to become an independent and confident learner. Mostly, students see their tutors as role models, so it’s very important to keep ourselves updated and supportive throughout and be ready to reach out to them academically and as a friend whenever in need. To conclude, having confidence…

The most crucial aspects for a tutor are clear explanations, creating a supportive environment, and adapting to diverse learning styles. It's vital to convey that making mistakes is part of learning, fostering confidence, and dispelling any intimidating image of a teacher to create a comfortable and open learning atmosphere. I think encouraging the student is the most important thing a tutor can do even more than results as if the student begins to become more inquisitive and enterprising in their own learning they will do better overall. I think I am patient and am willing to adapt my explanations to the student and their strengths as opposed to giving a standard…

Tutors should not immediately give students what they want. Providing answers is the easy path for both tutors and students, but then the solutions will always be mine, not the student's. I am not going to simply give them fish; I will teach them how to fish. I have varied experience, not just in, not only in the education sector but also in a…

This not only contributes to the process of learning content, but also to the wellbeing of the student under tutelage as…

Tutors are the ones who shape the future of a child. Through their knowledge they help students to overcome their subjects by providing conceptual clarity. Inside FitzroyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Gus focused on measurement skills including unit conversions, perimeter, and an introduction to surface area, as well as exploring the angle sum in triangles.

In Year 9, Maryam worked on solving simultaneous equations using substitution and elimination, then applied these methods to practical problems.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Ali reviewed operations with fractions—adding, subtracting, multiplying with different denominators—and extended this knowledge to simplifying algebraic fractional expressions.

Recent Challenges

A Year 6 student in Fitzroy showed difficulty setting out work neatly and consistently dating pages, making it harder to track progress—especially when tackling worded measurement problems.

As one tutor observed, "she struggles to walk through questions speaking out loud," which made it tough to clarify her thinking on fraction conversions and unit changes.

In Year 10 English, a student forgot to submit an essay by the deadline, delaying feedback and causing extra stress before class.

A senior maths student arrived unprepared for sessions without essential materials like a pen or laptop; this slowed the start and limited practice time.

Recent Achievements

One Fitzroy tutor noticed a Year 11 student, Celeste, who used to hesitate with trigonometry word problems now confidently solves bearings and graphing tasks on her own—she even tackles complex questions without prompting.

In another session, Maryam (Year 10) moved from confusion about box plots to clearly explaining five-figure summaries and solving simultaneous equations using both substitution and elimination methods.

Meanwhile, in Year 6 maths, Ella showed a shift from struggling with measurement topics to independently working through area and volume questions, finishing her test section on these without needing hints.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Fitzroy Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Sacred Heart School.
