Building a caring relationship in my opinion is the most important thing a tutor can do for any student. It is only that foundation can a tutor be able to deliver his best and at the same time the student will be keen to learn. It is the conducive learning environment that a tutor has to provide to enable the student to work to his/her maximum…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be patient and persistent. Everyone learns at their own pace, and we must allow individuals the freedom to learn at their own speed. At the same time, we need to remain persistent and support the student through difficulties. I believe my strengths lie in my ability to view things from a…

A tutor can do the things a lecturer cannot cover in school lectures, i.e. "concreting" an underlying concept of the subject that makes up most of the part of the assignments and the knowledge which is the prerequisite for the coming topics in the subject. A trivial example would be clarifying trigonometry before learning solutions of triangles,…

Tutoring is not just about writing formulas on paper and solving equations. Tutoring is about connecting with the student, listening to them and understanding them. Only then a tutor can see what topics the students are struggling with and be able to help them. A tutor can go on and on and on for hours with a lot of knowledge base and high level…

One of the most crucial roles a tutor can play is to ignite a student\'s passion for learning that transcends the confines of textbooks. It\'s about instilling the ability to think critically and creatively, and to explore new ideas independently. The ultimate achievement for a tutor is to witness their students not just absorbing information, but…

Think to pass the belief that the student can achieve the goal. It is just the matter of working hard and maybe trying different approach. And also not comparing yourself to other students, because everyone is unique. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to promote confidence in a student. After a tutoring session, the goal should not be for a student to be able to complete their homework. Instead, the student should gain an understanding of the topic such that they can complete future coursework without the help of a tutor. If that…

I think enthusiasm is important - I have found in my own studies that when someone isn't enthusiastic about what they are teaching, it can easily dampen one's own ability to take on information. As i mentioned, being patient and encouraging is key to making students feel confident in their learning. Finally, being organised so that when the lesson…

Inside EveleighTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Olivia practised converting between fractions, decimals, and percentages and also worked on finding percentages of quantities in everyday contexts.

Year 8 student Mason focused on expanding and factorising algebraic expressions as well as solving quadratic equations using the completing the square method.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Aisha tackled trigonometric identities and began introductory differentiation, reinforcing both with targeted practice questions.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student showed a tendency to "jump to what he thinks is the answer—often a guess if he doesn't follow a logical process," especially in pattern and word problems.

In Year 7, one learner often avoided writing working out on paper, preferring mental calculation, which led to repeated basic errors ("Writing his working out on paper rather than doing it all in his head").

At senior level, hesitation with new types of questions surfaced: as noted in Year 11, "she hesitates to try and asks me how to do it rather than try it herself first." This can leave students feeling uncertain when independent problem-solving is required.

Recent Achievements

One Eveleigh tutor noticed a big shift with a Year 11 student who, after struggling to complete differentiation problems independently, managed to work through tricky questions on her own and even explained new methods back to the tutor.

In another high school session, a Year 10 student—who used to rush through area and perimeter questions without checking—has started pausing to think through each step before answering, leading to more accurate solutions.

Meanwhile, a younger student has begun asking for help when stuck rather than guessing quietly, showing much more openness during problem-solving.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Newtown Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Central Sydney Intensive English High School.
