What I consider to be the most important things a tutor can do for a student are build self-confidence, without this they will not believe in themselves and their ability, and therefore will not make the improvements they are capable of, inspire them to create their own goals, both long-term and short term, big and small, and of course, help…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is help them understand. Memorising content is useful, but without understanding, the brain soon discards it as unimportant. Understanding allows students to see the bigger picture and how concepts tie together. Memorising forces students into a box, where questions outside of what they’ve…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is understand the student and his/her needs. Based on this understanding, the tutor can provide personalised support, build the student's confidence and motivate them to study better. A tutor can also inspire the students, to get the student to develope a love for learning and for…

Support and believe within the student that they can do it. They are only limited with what they think they think they can achieve, if a student sees their tutor believe they can do it than definitely they will drive their own development. I am very patient and I can see conceptual gaps within a students thinking which further helps them develop…

Ironing out a student's weak areas is important as I believe it is important to make students confident in their work. Furthermore, explaining things in a way that makes students understand concepts better such as using analogies is important as the way things are typically taught might be one of the reasons it is difficult to understand concepts.…

A tutor should ensure that a student understands the content they are delivering since the primary goal of tuition is for a student to improve and make progress in their studies. A tutor should be friendly towards their students in order to achieve this. I believe that I have great organisational skills which allows me to be productive in my…

I concur with Ezy Math Tutoring's philosophy: a tutor’s most important job is to listen and observe how students work and learn, and then provide them with strategies to work and learn more effectively. The tutor must also establish a supportive, mentoring relationship with their student, so that students feel comfortable with discussing what…

Having faced challenges in Science during my high school, I am aware of the problems students face in understanding complex mathematical concepts. The most important thing for a tutor to do is not answer the students homework for them but to lead them to the answer, whether it would be going back to help them understand the concept, method or what the question is asking. Guiding the student towards developing better study habits and organisational skills is also important as these would in…

Other than the obvious reasons of being able to just regurgitate the content taught in schools in my opinion the most important things a tutor could do for a student is be compassionate for them and empathetic as tutoring is not like school as since they may go tutoring e.g. 1 time per week they need to learn more content than of which they do at…

It's significant that a tutor should teach their students all the important points and lessons in an understandable way, but at the same time, we have to raise our students' confidence and motivate them to study the lessons. I have enough patience to explain every aspect of what I'm teaching. Personally, I am a kind and considerate person so I try…

Inside East HillsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Mia worked through **perimeter and length calculations** alongside multiplication and division, using her school homework as a guide.

For Year 7, lessons with Alex focused on applying the **index laws** and simplifying expressions with indices, followed by adding and dividing fractions with different denominators.

Meanwhile, Year 8 student Ava practiced solving **linear equations** and explored graphing straight lines, using coordinate geometry problems to reinforce these algebraic skills.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student struggled with exam performance, not due to content gaps but from "writing answers down or conducting working in a confusing way," which led to lost marks even when the maths was understood.

In Year 10 algebra, anxiety and frequent second-guessing meant she constantly sought validation before writing her ideas, stalling progress on longer written responses.

For a Year 5 learner, confusion arose in division and multi-step word problems—misinterpreting negative signs as subtraction or mixing up operation order.

When learning decimals in Year 6, skipping layout steps made mistakes harder to spot and correct during revision sessions.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in East Hills noticed Leila now checks her work for mistakes before moving on—a big shift from earlier sessions when she'd rush ahead and miss errors.

In another session, Leila showed new independence by tackling unseen financial maths problems and was able to explain where she'd gone wrong without needing prompts.

Meanwhile, Mohammad, also in high school, recently used new vocabulary words accurately in sentences after struggling with this skill just weeks ago.

During one lesson, he completed a factual recount independently using the correct structure.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Panania Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like East Hills Public School.
